Our teacher training resources integrate global best practice with the Myanmar educational context, providing sound grounding in the theory and practice of effective teaching.

The resources align to Mote Oo trainers’ own experiences teaching and training in a variety of setting throughout Myanmar and regionally, and contain a range of tasks encouraging analysis, reflection, discussion and learner-centred practice.

Activities featured throughout the books are tested and proven at the chalkface, and can be adapted to different levels and contexts.

Activities for Social Science Teaching

Activities for Social Science Teaching is a resource and reference book for teachers of social science, English and critical thinking.

It has six chapters with over 120 activities. Each chapter focuses on a different aspect of teaching social science subjects. Each section uses example texts to give you a better idea of how the activities can be used to create exciting and stimulating lessons, again and again.

There are also ideas for practical activities to personalise social science lessons, including map-making, surveying and creating graphs. These activities will help students to apply their skills and knowledge to their local environment and find relevance in their studies.

How to Teach Online
(English)

How to Teach Online is a self-study resource for teachers. It is the result of a research project into the current practices and needs of Myanmar teachers and students as they navigate the challenging world of online teaching and learning. Its purpose is to help teacher better make the transition from traditional to online teaching, in a way that encourages them to adapt what they already know, rather than relearning their profession.

How to Teach Online opens with an overview of key terms and concepts, and includes a review of the basic tools necessary for online teaching. The instruction chapters follow the teaching and learning cycle that is core to our The New Teacher resources. The book also includes a short chapter focusing on adapting familiar activities to an online setting.

The book is considerate of the differing levels of online expertise, connectivity and software and hardware available to Myanmar teachers. A multi-level approach is taken with many of the recommendations and tips, so that teachers can easily work to the level that suits them and their context.

An Introduction to Teaching

An Introduction to Teaching is a week-long course designed for teachers who have not had much access to teacher training. It can be used in pre-service or in-service workshops.

During the course, trainees will explore the characteristics of a learner-centred class, the basic principles of classroom management and lesson planning, and experience a range of different activities that they can use in their classrooms. Throughout the course there are opportunities for trainees to observe and try out different techniques for themselves via model lessons and peer teaching.

The course comprises a trainer’s guide and a trainee’s book. The trainee’s book contains lesson texts and photocopiable worksheets and handouts, and the trainer’s guide contains, in addition to the trainee content, instructions, answers and reference to the Myanmar Teacher Standards Competency Framework.

The New Teacher is a series of short training courses for Myanmar teachers. Each module looks at a different aspect of teaching and learning, and takes trainees step-by-step through the teaching cycle.

Modules in the series can be taught one after the other or individually. They can be used for self study, as part of a larger training programme for new or in-service teachers, or can be adapted as required, depending on the needs of the trainees or the requirements of the training course.
